Reading #6 - PoMo Design Examples
David Carson
I have always liked David Carson and the way he designs, it reminds me a lot of the skateboard and surf culture that I am acquainted with. The two photos juxtaposed against each other and the type going every which way and the scale and hierarchy of the differing elements is an index sign that this piece is post modern.
Neville Brody
I think the simplicity of this piece is great. Written backwards, one flipped vertically, and the way they fit together really is pretty cool.
Jeffrey Keedy
This piece of PoMo design reminds me of a lot of different art movements, such as constructivism and modernism. However, with the typography taking up most of the bottom, and the mixed lines running throughout the text tells me that this is very post modern.

This one is one of my favorites out of the ones on this page. There is a lot of mixed typefaces portrayed together, something that was very post modern. The photo, instead of being enlarged, is super small and tucked away by the text.

This design is a great example of PoMo design, because the photo fidelity has been changed by adding color and adding a black bar across the eyes. There are also random photos of objects flying around the piece as well, and there is a lot of contrasting color and it is very busy.

Swiss Vinyl Jacket Design
Project Brief:
This project is to make an album cover, or vinyl jacket, for the artist Jack Johnson. The jacket is to gate fold, or open in the middle with 3 different sides. The vinyl record will be 7" in diameter, so the jacket will have to be 8" by 8" square. The songs that will be including on the vinyl record will be Upside Down, Better Together, Sitting, Waiting, Wishing, Banana Pancakes, Good People, Breakdown. These songs will be on Side A. The songs on Side B will be You and Your Heart, Taylor, Angel, Do You Remember, I Got You, and Never Know. The title of the album will be called Better Together.

Reading #5 - Swiss Design Examples

These two posters can relate to each other quite nicely. In both, there is the use of a grid, and they both use similar sans-serif typefaces. Along with the grid, there are dynamics that lead your eye from one end of the design to the other, making the viewer search the whole thing. Josef Muller-Brockman was a great Swiss designer and I believe his design aesthetic will be replicated for quite some time.

Best Design Project Forever
I have been thinking about some different ideas, but one thing that I have always wanted to do is to design skateboard-related objects, mainly skateboard decks, wheels, and clothing. I want to show that skateboarding can relate to good design techniques, and not just a punk-rock/hoodlum atmosphere. I also wish to create a quick website for people to navigate while online. The images that will be shown on the objects need to be vectorized, for easy editing, and also simple, so as not to overwhelm the "untrained" eye.

Constructivist Syntax Poster
Design Brief
This project is going to address the issue of unemployment within the united states. I chose to address this topic because I have family members with college degrees still struggling to find employment. The message that I wish to convey is the need for more employment opportunities to those who desperately need and seek them. The sender will be me, as the designer, and the audience will be, first, the people in charge of helping get employment, and second, to those who are affected by unemployment, either within family, friends, or self. This poster is going to take on a Constructivist design to convey it's message, and it will be printed 11" by 17" on paper.
